How planning works for community woodlands

Wednesday 1st April. 10-11.30am. Online. Free

This session will introduce the planning system and explain why it matters when looking to improve your community woodland. We will explore what planning is, what local authority planning departments manage and control, and how requirements can apply to common woodland developments such as paths, huts, sheds, compost toilets and other facilities.

The session will also cover:

  • What to consider before applying for planning permission

  • How to apply for permission

  • The importance of building relationships with the council and your neighbours

  • Navigating timescales in the light of funding

We will be joined by Anne Krippler from Planning Aid Scotland, alongside Murray Ferguson from Culduthell Community Woodland (Inverness) and Ally Graham from Beechbrae (West Lothian), who will share practical insights and real-world experiences of engaging with planning departments.
