Site Visits: Knoydart Forest Trust and Arkaig Community Forest.

21st and 22nd February 2024

As we move through the winter months and closer to Spring, we are delighted to offer our members with a very exciting opportunity! CWA are excited to announce our exchange visits planned with Knoydart Forest Trust and Arkaig Community Forest.

There is significant funding available for this event, and most, if not all expenses will be covered. Win, win! Who doesn’t like a free trip away, visiting beautiful places and meeting like-minded people?!

CWA members often talk about their desire and joy of visiting other woodland groups and sharing their experiences and these exchanges will certainly afford you that opportunity.

CWA and the teams at both Knoydart and Arkaig have planned the sessions around daylight hours, ferry availability (and when best to avoid cancellation of ferries!)

Overnight accommodation is still to be finalized, but this will be in Fort William, or very close by.

Options to car share may be available once we know who has signed up. Should you require this option, please do identify in the sign-up form below.

Funding

In a bid to keep costs as low as possible, CWA has identified a couple of funding sources to financially support other community woodland groups to attend.

Highland Council Area

If your woodland group sits within the Highland Council area, the HC Community Regeneration Fund have agreed to support most, if not all, of the costs for attending the exchange visit, if receipts are presented to CWA. CWA will take responsibility for organising the hotel accommodation for this event.

Out-with Highland Council Area

Alternatively, if you are hoping to attend from out-with Highland Council, you can apply for help with your costs through the Scottish Community Alliance’s Community Learning Exchange. It can take up to 3 weeks to hear about the success of this application, so please do apply as soon as possible. Please note that CLE funds will be paid in advance of the exchange, but a quick payment is dependent on the applicant returning the award letter, endorsed by CWA asap.

Please contact Sharon@communitywoods.org should you wish to discuss further as reasonable advance payments can be offered depending on circumstances.
