Our very own Woodland Officer, Alice Brawley, presented a 3-part webinar on mapping - an essential part of forest planning - whether you are applying for grants, delivering forest operations or planning future programmes. 

This 3-part webinar series introduce digital mapping and:

  • Outline the basics of mapping, including how to quantify your woodland and examples of best practice

  • Explore different mapping platforms that community woodland groups can use

  • Hear from community woodland groups about how they are creating and using maps

  • Answer your questions and potentially develop an online support network for ongoing, mapping-related queries


Session 1: Introduction to mapping. This session focuses on: what it is, why it’s useful, and an overview of mapping platforms suitable for community woodland groups.


Session 2: Mapping fundamentals. This session focuses on: key terminology, spatial data types and file formats, with examples relevant to forestry and woodland management.


Session 3: Thursday 12th March 2026 - 3-4 pm

Mapping in action - how community woodland groups use mapping, with time for participant questions, practical demonstrations, and discussion of next steps
