Learn all about firewood production, and what this can mean for your community woodland group.

Come along to a workshop at Sylvestrus Ltd, (Nordmann Croft, Artafallie, North Kessock, Inverness, IV1 3ZD) on Saturday 24th February 2024, where Dietrich Plannwitz will share with you an exciting day covering all aspects of Firewood Production. Dietrich will discuss:

  • Why? Green Energy. Local Employment. Utilising what we have. Circular economy

  • Who? Labour force. Machinery requirements.

  • When? At what stage can a woodland produce firewood? When best to cut and dry. When best to deliver/pick up.

  • Where? In the wood versus purpose-built yard. Open or under cover?

  • What? Softwood versus hardwood. Wet versus dry wood. Small bags, large bags, loose. Bulk trailer/bulk lorry loads, and,

  • How? Techniques to produce and dry firewood, delivery versus picking up, costings, various machinery, bought in material versus cut in your own forest, competition, legislation, health and safety, what should we plant to produce raw material, etc.

This promises to be an information packed session led by a very experienced forester. Dietrich is also open and willing to support other discussions around tree planting and harvesting, should they arise. You will also have the opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience with other community wood members – invaluable!

We have limited places for 8 people only, so please do not delay in signing up.
