Community consultation: Exploring a potential community purchase of Kingsmeadows woodland
We want to hear from you on the proposed future community purchase of Kingsmeadows woodland!
-
The Kingsmeadows SCIO are exploring the possibility of securing the woodland for the community. Over the past few years, residents have come together to protect the site from potential development and ensure it is managed for biodiversity and the people of Peebles for generations to come.
Please view the consultation document for more information and give us your views using our feedback form in the link below.
At present, the landowner has not indicated an intention to sell the woodland. However, the community is exploring the possibility of registering an interest through Scotland’s Community Right to Buy legislation. If an interest is successfully registered, and if the landowner chooses to sell the woodland at any point in the next five years, the community would have the first opportunity to purchase it.
This consultation is designed to gather views from local people about:
How the woodland is currently used
What the community values most about the site
Any concerns or priorities for its future
What a community-led ownership and management approach might look like
-
The consultation closes on Sunday 10th May 2026
An in-person consultation will take place on
Saturday 2nd May January, 10am - 12pm,
at The Eastgate Theatre, Peebles, EH45 8AD.

Your feedback will help shape an early, indicative 5‑year business plan, which will support the community in deciding whether to pursue a Right to Buy application and how Kingsmeadows could be managed as a future community woodland.
