Eadha Enterprise

Eadha Enterprises in collaboration with Community Windpower have established a new community woodland at Wardlaw Windfarm near Dalry. 10,000 native trees have been planted thanks to the help of 100 volunteers. The 7 hectare woodland has been created to compensate for the loss of tree cover from the development of other windfarms by Community Windpower.

Eadha Enterprises designed the new woodland to fulfill a number of objectives. Resilient native species were selected which will thrive on this exposed site. This includes 4000 native aspen trees grown by Eadha which once established will be the largest native aspen woodland in southern Scotland. The new woodland will enhance the landscape and provide a valuable new wildlife habitat.

There is also the potential for the woodland to provide a future economic resource for the local community in the form of woodfuel and other wood products. Lying at an altitude of 290m above sea level, and being fully exposed to the prevailing southwesterlies, the woodland will act a pilot for upland biomass production and provide a useful comparison of fast growing aspen, silver birch and alder in challenging conditions. Planted in single species blocks, it is envisaged that these trees could be harvested in 15 years to supply local community needs. Fringe areas of rowan, downy birch, eared willow, gorse, hawthorn, hazel and holly have also been planted.

Eadha Enterprise have recently established the Wardlaw Community Woodland near Dalry, North Ayrshire. A site location plan is attached. The NGR is: NS 252 516.
