Kingsburgh Forest Trust

Kingsburgh Forest is a community-owned woodland situated in the Trotternish region of the Isle of Skye. The forest consists of two plantations; one at Glenhinnisdal and the other at Glenuachdarach.

Kingsburgh Forest Trust was formed by the residents of Kingsburgh, Isle of Skye, Scotland when Forest Enterprise moved to sell the plantations of Glenhinnisdal and Glenuachdarach to a private buyer.

Kingsburgh Common Grazings Committee objected to this move and began a campaign to acquire the plantations, jointly called Kingsburgh Forest, on behalf of the local community. This campaign proved successful and in 2003 the Trust purchased the 178 hectares of woodland from Forest Enterprise with the aid of grants from the Scottish Land Fund and the Community Land Unit.
