Falkland Centre for Stewardship - Woodland Assistants, Falkland, Fife 

Application Deadline: Thursday 01st January 1970
Minimum wage, 30 hours per week, Mon-Thurs - 8.30am to 5.30pm.
Woodland Assistants will carry out a number of conservation activities in the woodlands including rhododendron control, woodland management, hedge planting, sustainable thinning, firewood prepping and storing, path maintenance, dry stone dyke repair as well as particular projects, surveys and greeting visitors. Regular support and supervision will be provided by Tess Darwin, Woodland Learning Manager, Sam Docherty, Woodland Ranger and their day to day foreman Shawn Gilmour.

The community benefit from these jobs will be: increased management of the pathways which are used by over 200,000 members of the public all year round, improved biodiversity eg monitoring improved and habitat areas improved, provision of assistance to general uses of the woodlands eg making benches for them to sit on. They will work with the assistants and if they are interested in a particular aspect of woodland management they would hope to develop this interest.

Constant on the job training will be provided including how to use hand tools & how to store them safely. With their previous assistants they paid for them to get both their outdoor health and safety certificates and certificates in chainsaws and it would be their intention to put these candidates through these courses if they wanted to (chainsaw certificates will significantly improve their chances for future jobs).
