Knoydart Forest Trust Forester

Application Deadline: Saturday 01st June 2013

Knoydart Forest Trust manages 800ha of community owned woodlands on the Knoydart peninsula to maximise the environmental, social and financial benefits of this natural resource.

Since 1999 the Trust has made significant achievements including establishment of 8 new native woodlands totalling over 350 ha, maintenance of c200ha of existing semi-native and new native woodlands, harvesting 8,000 tonnes of timber, restocking harvested sites with multiple objective tree species, eradicating 55ha of dense Rhododendron ponticum plus 250ha of spreading outlying bushes, creating and maintaining an extensive path and track network, construction of 2 mountain bike tracks, milling and planing of local timber, initial development of woodfuel market and construction of employee accommodation using local timber and much more.

In addition to the ongoing management and maintenance of established activities we are now looking to develop areas that will maximise the use and benefits of the woodland resource and secure the sustainability of the organisation. Many plans are in place and some funding is secured which provides an exciting opportunity for someone to help make this happen.
We are intending to appoint a Forester to head up the operational side of our team in Spring 2013 following organisational restructuring. We are looking for someone who has practical forestry experience and training (HND/BSc or equivalent) and equally importantly, we want someone who shares our ethos and way of working. We want someone who supports community ownership and management and is committed to making that a success on the ground.

If you think you have the skills and drive to make our vision become a reality we would welcome the opportunity to talk to you. Please get in touch with for more details
