Natural Communities Trainee: Community Engagement with Moine Mhor NNR and Kilmartin Glen, SNH and Kilmartin House,Argyll

Application Deadline: Friday 02nd November 2012
Natural Communities is an innovative new programme providing 12 month long programmes to equip trainees with the skills to engage communities with the environment.
Kilmartin Glen, near Lochgilphead, is famous as the centre of the ancient kingdom of Dalriada, an area whose history and archaeology attract a large number of visitors every year.
This placement will deliver projects that will establish better connections between the Moine Mhor and the communities located immediately around it. The projects will relate to both communication (newsletters, blogging) and activities such as volunteering, education and oral history. A key part of the placement is to create a series of long-term channels for the partners and communities to maintain good connections going forward. The placement will therefore work closely with staff from SNH’s NNR team and Kilmartin House Museum, but will also be given creative freedom to generate ideas and follow them up.
During the placement you will be supported to learn and put into practice a wide range of natural heritage and community development skills, work towards gaining an accredited qualification and develop and deliver your own community environmental engagement project.
· You will need to have a basic knowledge of natural history and a commitment to conservation.
· Some experience of working with the public is essential and experience delivering environmental education, working with community groups or working with volunteers will be an advantage.
· You will be highly motivated and able to work efficiently without supervision.
· This role requires excellent communication and organisational skills and an aptitude for enthusing others to value, enjoy and protect our natural heritage.
Please note that applicants should only apply for one Natural Communities position from the Natural Communities Traineeships currently being offered. Applications for multiple positions from an individual will not be considered.
