From Ideas to Action - Dundee 27th and 28th Aug 09
Posted: 22/06/2009

Designed for representatives of community organisations who would like structured support on how best to develop project ideas, this one and a half day event will bring together people from many different areas to discuss key actions that need to take place before a project can be fully developed.

The format will include presentations by communities who have ‘been there and done it’ and can help inspire you as well as understand your difficulties.  There will be a 3 course dinner on Thursday evening to allow you to relax with fellow participants and share your experiences informally.  Overnight accommodation in single en suite rooms is also included.

Scribe Log Building Course - Knoydart
Posted: 18/06/2009

18th to 20th and 21st to 23rd July - two 3 day events back to back in Inverie, Knoydart.

Knoydart Forest Trust invites you to join them for a 3 day Scribe Log Building course led by professional log builder Alan Mackintosh.  The 3 day course will be run on 2 dates in July for CWA groups. This learning and networking opportunity is aimed at members of community woodland groups who are interested in undertaking log building projects.

The course is aimed at beginner and intermediate level log builders (more experienced people also welcome). To get the most out of the course you need to be competent with a chainsaw (i.e. regular chainsaw users, preferably having attended an industry approved ‘maintenance and cross-cutting course’ or higher level).  It may still be possible to fit you on the course if you do not have much chainsaw experience so please contact Knoydart Forest Trust to discuss.

Woodland Deer Management Course
Posted: 20/04/2009

Knoydart Forest Trust - Inverie 29th to 31st May 09 - The trust are running this course to develop their woodland deer management and to open the course up to other groups who would like to do the same.

Knoydart Forest Trust manages around 800ha of woodland, roughly half native woodland regeneration and half conifer plantation. The mixed woodland at Inverie (c250ha) is fenced on 3 sides and open to the sea on the fourth side, here we have succeeded in reducing the red and roe deer population to a level that is allowing natural regeneration, our aim is to maintain levels that will allow re-planting of felled areas.

Course Objectives: We are running this event in order to develop our own woodland deer management and to offer the same opportunity to other woodland groups. A practical based weekend aimed at: Existing and trainee stalkers who want to develop their woodland skills and techniques and Community Woodland project managers and management groups who want to increase their knowledge and understanding.

The Course will cover:

Why & How we need to manage woodland deer

Responsibilities and Legal Aspects

Deer Impact assessment and monitoring

Practical Woodland Stalking methods and techniques
