The aim of the course is for those who want to make charcoal on a modest scale, i.e. semi-commercially in a ring kiln, to go right through the process. To be able to demonstrate a smaller-scale technique of making charcoal in an oil-drum using two different methods and to familiarise people with other kiln products including charcoal fines, willow drawing charcoal, pine tar.

The annual conference “Making Woodlands Work” will take place on 23rd and 24th October at McLaren High School, Callander. The 2010 conference will focus on how to get the very best out of your woodlands. The conference will give community volunteers and those working for volunteer groups the chance to share experience, learn from each other and move forward with your plans. The AGM will take place on Sunday afternoon at 2.15pm. The conference is free to many of you, depending on your membership status, and you will also get subsidies on travel and accommodation costs. The ever popular dinner and Ceilidh will be held on Saturday night at the Dreadnought Hotel. Please ensure that you book your own accommodation.
