The 10th A Wood of Our Own Networking Event at Craignure & Tiroran Forest, Isle of Mull

2nd September

The 10th A Wood of Our Own (AWOO) networking event will take place at Craignure & Tiroran Forest on the Isle of Mull on Friday 2ndSeptember. In keeping with AWOO’s familiar-but-successful format, the day will consist of morning updates from FCS representatives (funding, forest policy, local forest district issues), a round-up of Community Woodland Association activities followed by a number of short presentations from some AWOO constituent groups – covering the usually broad range of woodland, community and social enterprise interests.

In the afternoon there will be a site visit to Tiroran Forest – a recent acquisition for South West Mull and Iona Development where we can get a feel for the place, hear about the community’s ‘journey’ so far, see some early work undertaken under community control, and learn about and discuss their priorities and vision for the future.

Timings have been designed to fit around convenient ferry crossings with most mainland attendees anticipated to travel to and from Mull as foot passengers (Oban – Craignure).

Ferry times are detailed in the attached Agenda but attendees are reminded to build in sufficient time to arrive (and park?) in Oban as well as purchase tickets in plenty of time prior to the ferry sailing.

Morning presentations will be at An Roth Community Enterprise Centre – a very short walk from the Craignure ferry terminus. The afternoon trip to/from Tiroran Forest will be made by minibus(es) laid on by SW Mull & Iona Development.

The forest visit itself will involve walking on conventional (though often muddy) forest roads and unbound woodland trails but with little shelter (other than trees!). Please dress accordingly.

A packed lunch will be provided on the day - please specify any dietary requirements on the Booking Form. If at all possible, we would be grateful of prompt return of booking forms to help with food and transport planning for the day.
