Hardwood Log Valuation and Marketing (Dunfermline)

Where: Scottish Wood, Oakley, nr Dunfermline
When: Friday 2 November 10:00 – 16:00
This event is aimed at: Foresters, sawmillers, firewood processors, furniture makers, tree surgeons, estate managers, etc.

The training course will cover all aspects of valueing and marketing hardwood logs, including: how to assess timber quality and grade roundwood for sale, the different ways of presenting a parcel of logs for sale, how to cross-cut and present individual logs, volume measurement tools and conventions, what to look for as a prospective purchaser, different ways of marketing timber parcels and individual logs.

The day will begin with an indoor introduction to the subject followed by an afternoon looking at standing trees in Inzievar Woods and progressing to assessing felled timber. Scottish Wood has kindly offered the use of their sawmill yard, providing an opportunity to see a wide range of timber in the round in a working sawmill.

Lunch and tea/coffee will be provided to delegates. Please bring stout footwear, waterproofs and a notebook.

Cost: ASHS members free. Non-members £50. Spaces limited.

Directions: Google maps search term ‘Scottish Wood’. To find the yard, turn off the A907 in Oakley onto Station Road, veer left immediately after the railway tunnel and then turn immediately right up a track. The yard is the second branch on the left off this track.
