The Community Woodlands Association welcomes the opportunity to contribute to this consultation. We appreciate the recognition that the Deputy Minister gives to the increased range of applicants for SFGS, of which community groups represent a major constituent. We trust that the new SFGS will continue to draw applications from community groups by providing them with the incentives that they need to deliver the greater public benefits that community control creates.

Scottish Forestry Strategy Review - Second Consultation June 2006
The Community Woodlands Association welcomes the opportunity to comment on the Draft Scottish Forestry Strategy 2006.
We find much to commend within the draft strategy, in particular the emphasis placed on the wide social and environmental roles that Scottish forestry provides. The very first paragraph: “Forestry is a remarkable land use…” sets this out well, and we would add “a focus for community cohesion and development” to the functions listed here.
